Bipin Rawat becomes India’s first Joint Chief of Army Staff

Bipin Rawat has been appointed as the country’s first Joint Chiefs of Staff. He will be in charge on January 1. Bipin Rawat, the current army chief, is set to retire on December 31. In the meantime, he has been given a new task.

The appointment of Bipin Rawat has been approved by the Union Cabinet Committee. The Joint Chiefs of Staff is for three years. The Joint Chief of Staff will be the government’s single point advisor on military matters.

It will also ensure coordination of land, air and naval forces. But the commanding power of these three armies will not have a combined force.
